Aaron Bohrod (1907–)

Aaron Bohrod's place in the history of twentieth century American art has been established by his detailed still lifes and realistic portrayals of the American scene. Born in 1907 in Chicago, Bohrod studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Art Students League, New York, where he worked with John Sloan.

He has received numerous awards, including two Guggenheim fellowships; eight awards from the Art Institute of Chicago; Kirk Memorial Prize, National Academy of Design; Childe Hassam Prize, American Academy of Arts and Letters and Wisconsin Governor's Award for Achievement in the Fine Arts. From 1948-73, he was the artist-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin, Madison]. In 1966, Bohrod wrote A DECADE OF STILL LIFE.

His works have been featured in many exhibitions, including a retrospective at the Brooks Memorial Art Gallery, Memphis, in 1975. Museum collections include the Whitney Museum of Ameriq Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Art Institute of Chicago and Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
