Born in Tacna, Peru in 1960, Barrios graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes del Perú (ENBA) in 1990. He also studied craftmanship, batik, macramé, leather embossing and ceramics painting. Barrios obtained a Honorable Mention in his drawing class in 1989 at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes.
