Theo Tobiasse (1927–)
Tobiasse was born in Jaffa (Israel) in 1927. At a young age he left with his family for Kouno, Lithuania, and when he was six, his parents decided to settle in Paris. He studied at the school des Arts Decoratifs. He worked for publicity agencies, made tapestry canvas and created displays for important shops of the "Fauborg St. Honore" in Paris. He settled in Nice in 1950 and devoted himself entirely to painting and sculpture. He has had exhibitions in the Gallery Drouant, Paris and participates in collective exhibitions at Biennales de Paris et Menton, Salon des Peintres temoins de leur temps. His work is represented in museums and collections in France as well as New York, Los Angeles, London, Tel Aviv, Caracas and Montreal. Prizes and rewards include 1961 Dorothy Gould, and 1965 Prize of "The Young Mediterranean Painting."
